As covid eases and wedding ceremonies start to reappear, there’s no doubt that you’ll be searching for sustainable wedding guest dresses and accessories to celebrate in style. Wearth has a broad range of eco-friendly outfit options, that are lovingly made by UK brands and creatives. I’ve compiled a list of ethical wedding guest dresses made in the UK to help get you started and to make sure you’re the best dressed guest at the party.
As a fashion graduate, I can’t help but plan my looks ahead of time and gratefully here at Wearth, we have much to select from this season—whether you’re looking for a sophisticated, sustainable jumpsuit or a floral, eco-friendly maxi, I’ve got you covered.
When selecting an outfit for an important event, there are several factors to consider: the venue, the dress code, the weather and even how long the ceremony will last. Then there’s the sheer number of dress options (not to mention the tailored suits and jumpsuit alternatives).
Where To Start:
Repeat after me: My name is… and I wear the same dress over and over and over again and I’m not sorry.
Recently over on our TikTok, we dueted a video of a sustainable queen who rewore the perfect black velvet dress for 5 years!! If that’s not what we call real life sustainability, then we don’t know what else is. Small things like this may be embarrassing to some but you know the saying: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” and that’s a sustainable motto to live by.
What if you no longer fit into the dresses you have at the back of your wardrobe? Believe me when I say my size is always fluctuating and some months I can’t wear my fave pair of jeans because they won’t go above my thighs. It sucks BUT I know it is completely out of my control. First and foremost, don’t be too hard on yourself: loving and respecting your body always comes first. Needing to purchase new clothing due to changes in your body is completely normal and vastly different from simply purchasing for the sake of it.
When attempting to make more eco-friendly decisions when purchasing clothes, you’ll be surprised that you won’t have to compromise on style or look. Check out my wedding outfit guide below that includes everything from dresses to handbags and even jewellery, all planet-friendly and made with love.
Sustainable Wedding Guest Dresses:
From floaty midis to elegant florals, here are the very best eco-friendly dresses.
What could be more perfect for a wedding than this fresh, ethically sourced linen midi dress from Veryan? Navy is a timeless choice for wedding guests and the waist tie elevates the whole look.
This white floral ensemble features an on-trend slim-fit bodice and a midi-length skirt. The light and breezy fit will keep you cool at a summer wedding but also would look stunning topped with a fitted blazer at an autumn or winter wedding.
This fabulous floral-print style is stunning and ideal for any season’s wedding! If you’re attending a winter or autumn wedding and are concerned about staying warm, this stunning gown will look great with a shawl and chunky boots.
Before July’s simple blue strappy dress has a beautiful and feminine silhouette with a stylish seamed detail on the neckline. For a sophisticated look, pair this colour with metallic accessories and a gorgeous half-up, half-down hairstyle.
Mini dresses for weddings should not be overlooked. We can’t recommend a stylish mini enough if they fit the formality of the day. This vibrant pink eco-friendly dress, has puff sleeve detailing and features a wrap top with a full skirt.
This dress by Blonde Gone Rogue is ideal for a celebration near the coast or on the beach. I adore the retro design, which has a trendy ’70s vibe and bright splashes of colour; pair with heels for a fun wedding outfit option!
Take a look at the stunning colour clashing combo on this red and pink beauty from Stidston Studio. It is made of soft TENCEL fabric and can be worn in both the warmer and cooler seasons when layered with a chic blazer.
Backyard weddings are typically—but not always—dressed more casually. With that in mind, this dress strikes the ideal balance between casual and fashionable. Dress it down with a lace-up sandal and a glowy makeup look, or dress it up with a block heel and a striking lip.
Who said you can’t wear black to a wedding, this conservative yet elegant midi dress features puffy sleeves with ribbon tie cuffs perfectly creating the feminnie grunge vibe.. The lightweight fabric, made of brushed cotton, will keep you cool even when wearing long sleeves.
Nobody wants to buy something and only wear it once (it’s bad for both your wallet and the environment), which is where jumpsuits come in. Jumpsuits are a refreshing alternative to more traditional dresses and can make an excellent fashion statement, along with being an occasion outfit staple for years to come.
Wide leg trousers are incredibly popular now and we especially like this 70s style jumpsuit. The ‘v neck’ and abstract blue and white print on the environmentally friendly TENCEL fabric make it both glamorous and cool.
This lightweight jumpsuit is the perfect fabric choice for a hot sunny wedding, the 100% Linen Jumpsuit, features sustainable bamboo silk-lined pockets, waist tie with belt loops and concealed buttons. For a cool and classy wedding guest look, pair this look with strappy heels, hoop earrings and a bold lip.
Up-cycled Tailored Suits:
Could I interest you in a well-tailored suit? Celebrities and influencers have recently demonstrated that a menswear-inspired suit is a strong alternative to its more feminine counterpart, giving you even more reason to wear one to your next wedding and what’s best is that you will undoubtedly continue to wear it long after the festivities are over.
Blonde Gone Rogue’s delicate floral longline Blazer is made of silky up-cycled polyester, offering a more luxurious feel. The matching Wide Leg Trousers complete the look and create a fashionable silhouette; this suit is ideal for warm summer weddings and you can wear either piece separately to create alternative looks in the future.
Wedding guest bags are the unsung hero of your wedding outfit: the perfect bag can become the pièce de résistance of your look. The dress – you choose is important, but an alluring bag completes the look.
Jute bags are making a comeback and this beach-friendly bag is ideal for a destination wedding or simply to add a boho vibe to your outfit. While it may appear small, this clutch bag can hold everything you need for your wedding, from your favourite lipstick for quick photo touch-ups to your mobile phone.
This pink blush bag is perfect for spring and summer weddings with its ruched strap detailing that will get a lot of compliments throughout the night. Extra bonus: it’s made from deadstock cotton making it uber sustainable!
Complete your wedding ensemble with this vegan leather mini bag in Toffee Brown & Cream. Carry the structured bag by the handles or the chain strap to wear it over your shoulder (or as a crossbody).
This macrame bag with intricate woven detailing and fringe will add a tactile touch to your outfit. The fashionable bag is handmade from biodegradable and eco-friendly organic cotton twine giving a cute & eco boho vibe.
Wedding guest jewellery is one of the most under-appreciated aspects of getting ready for the big day. Because you’ll be in the backdrop of all the photos, you’ll want to look the part and feel good in your clothing and having stunning jewellery that elevates your look is a win-win in my book!
If you’re looking to invest, diamonds are where it’s at. These ethical lab-grown diamonds exude a stunning, sophisticated grandeur that is appropriate for all occasions.
Joyful jewellery makes dressing up for a wedding all the more fun, this lovely, recycled silver star cluster necklace features 5 little stars spread equally along a sterling silver chain. If you’ve gone for a lower neckline you may like stacking this necklace.
Contrary to popular belief, a wedding does not only include two crucial rings. Yours, too, can have an influence, but for a slightly different reason. These Bubble Stacking Rings come in a set of two and are made to order in Nodo’s London studio from recycled silver and brass.
If you’re looking for a more simple ring, this unisex ring by Hummingbird Hawkmoth is the one for you. This one-of-a-kind silver ring is crafted with recycled sterling silver and doesn’t upstage the bride or groom.
Atypical Things jewellery are well-designed and stand out yet do not steal the show. These hammered irregular round earrings are handmade in the UK and are meant to be worn and cherished on a daily basis. Each pair is textured and shaped by hand from recycled gold for a genuinely one-of-a-kind look.
You can never go wrong with a pair of drop earrings, they are fun, classic and elegant. These gold drop earrings are created from 100% recycled silver in Nouare’s Brighton studio.
Bracelets are not always a must-have, but if you’re wearing a short sleeve dress I would recommend this Kate Wainwright Sol Circle Bracelet, made ethically from recycled solid silver. What’s better, it’s an excellent eco-friendly addition to your jewellery collection that you can keep forever.
For the ultimate wedding guest jewellery, this organic chain bracelet from Nodo is an eco-friendly and fashionable piece that looks great when piled with other bracelets or on its own as a statement style piece.
It’s always enjoyable to go to major occasions like weddings so I hope this list helps you decide what to wear! This selection of products was curated with longevity in mind so go ahead and be a sustainable sister; you don’t want a one-hit wonder hanging out in your closet for the next decade. It’s a waste of money, and it’s also bad for the environment. Rewear these outfits and when you’re absolutely sure that you’re done with them try selling them, giving it to charity or maybe attempt to up-cycle them into new garments! You’ll never know until you try. I’d love to see your outfits so make sure you tag us on Instagram @wearthlondon!
