Clean Beauty: 3 At-Home, Natural Skincare Treatments

The skincare industry saw massive growth during the pandemic as we abandoned foundation in favour of the lower effort, fresh-faced look. Shelves became overwhelmed by beauty products in pretty packaging claiming to single-handedly cure acne, or give you a lit from within glow in minutes.

It became easy to get caught up in the endless trend cycle that promised unbeatable results with every new product or treatment: snail facial anyone? Although this slimy cure took TikTok by storm, and is admittedly a natural treatment, I think we’ll be giving this one a pass. Sometimes it’s better for your skin (and bank balance) to simply go back to the basics. So, which natural, home remedies are up to the challenge of replacing your ingredient heavy products and allowing you to have a spa-like experience at home? We’ve got the list right here!

Treat Your Feet with an Exfoliating Soak

Rest your tired feet with a relaxing baking soda foot soak. This treatment requires only two ingredients: baking soda and warm water, yet is highly effective at exfoliating and removing any dead skin. For best results simply fill up a basin with warm water and drop in 6-8 tablespoons of baking soda. Then relax for 30 minutes before giving your feet a quick rinse, patting dry, applying your favourite moisturiser and slipping on some fresh cotton socks.

Get that Glow with an Oatmeal and Honey Mask

Is your skin still struggling to overcome the last of the dreary winter weather? This simple, but luxurious treatment could be just the thing your thirsty skin needs. Ingredients include ground oats and apple cider vinegar, which help to soothe, exfoliate and tone alongside honey, known for its anti-ageing, antibacterial and moisturising properties. Feel free to switch the honey for agave syrup to make this treatment vegan friendly! This treatment can be used by all but is particularly effective for those with dry/dehydrated skin. Not 100% sure if this is you? Check out our blog post on how to identify your skin type here.

Blend 1 teaspoon of natural honey (or agave syrup), 1 tablespoon of ground oats along with ½ a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and ½ a teaspoon of water together in a bowl and apply a thin layer to your face. Let the mask work its magic for about 1 minutes before rinsing off with warm water and moisturising your face. This treatment can be repeated 1-2 times a week, but if irritation occurs cease use immediately.

Rejuvenate and Detox with a Rice Ginger Scrub

Give your body a scrub to refresh and remove any dead skin cells and avoiding irritation with this gentle, rice ginger mixture. This Asian inspired solution combines natural ingredients like coconut milk, loaded with healthy, hydrating fats and ginger which detoxifies and decreases inflammation.

Grind 65g of ground rice in a blender and combine with half a pint of coconut milk, 32g of brown sugar and 1.5 tablespoons of ground ginger to form a paste. Take the mixture with you into the shower and scrub your body head to toe, using gentle circular motions. Once this has been completed rinse off and enjoy baby soft skin. Remember to store any leftover mixture in old jars and bottles. This allows you to avoid waste and store extra product for further treatments.
