Spring Cleaning: Natural Cleaning Products to Refresh your Home

As the weather warms we can often turn to a deep spring clean to help us feel renewed and refreshed! If spring arriving has urged you to move the furniture, change around ornaments or tackle the cobwebs, then we have all the eco cleaning products to help you get started.

When we begin cleaning, we often recognise the chemical aroma from mainstream cleaning products. A scent that is not pleasant, and often catches at the back of your throat. Majority of highstreets cleaning products can be harmful to our health and the environment. But the good news is that you can make your own effective, natural and perfect cleaning products for an eco-friendly home or shop from the variety stocked at Wearth.

DIY Cleaning Products:

DIY cleaning products reduce pollution, makes you feel fulfilled and can be very affordable. Here is a basic cleaning recipe guide where you can modify ingredients depending on the surface you want to use it on.

All-Purpose Cleaner

Many all purpose cleaners include chemicals that can disrupt and unbalance our bodies. However, it is simple to create a multipurpose spray that is healthy for you and the environment:

  • 1 cup vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar).
  • 16 or 20 oz of rubbing alcohol (blue alcohol).
  • 1 cup distilled water (can be boiled tap water).
  • 20 drops of lemon or sweet orange essential oil.

All you have to do is mix all the ingredients in a spray bottle, and you’re ready to clean! It’s effective on all surfaces and helps your rooms smell fresh too!

Glass Cleaner

This recipe will leave nothing to envy  shop-bought products! We all like to see the glass or mirror sparkling clean and free of any marks.. All you will need is:

  • Equal parts water
  • Equal parts vinegar
  • Newspaper

Fill your spray half full with water and half with vinegar. Shake it well, and then spray. Finish it by drying it with newspapers, and you won’t see a mark.

Ecological Carpet Cleaning

It is often difficult to clean our carpets as hairs and bacteria get embedded in the pile. The first step is to give it a good shake and hang it outdoors if possible. To create a carpet cleaner you’ll need:

  • ½ litre of water
  • Half cup of cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon of borax

Now you know the procedure, mix and shake. Sprinkle over the stain or the entire carpet, leave for 30-35 minutes, and brush with a medium bristle brush in the same direction, so as not to “muss up” the fabric. Rinse with the sponge only with water and let it dry in the sun. It will be as good as new.

Air Fresheners

The last touch after a thorough clean is keeping each room smelling fresh. Who doesn’t like a pleasing aroma in the house? Some opt for a natural soy wax candle, but you can also create your own air freshener at home. You will need:

  • 1litre of alcohol (preferably 70º).
  • 4 litres of water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  •  A couple of Eucalyptus leaves.

The process consists of leaving the eucalyptus leaves to soak in alcohol for two days. Boil 1 litre of water with grated soap until it dissolves. Then add the water and the eucalyptus scent to a bottle, and it’s ready to set the mood in your home.

If you are one of those people who finds it hard to create your own products or simply don’t have time because of your busy life, don’t worry! At Wearth we have all the products you need to keep your home clean and refreshed in an eco-friendly way.
